Our Students
Our students - our Dreamers - have a wide variety of interests, hobbies, and dreams. Although research shows that these students may walk through our doors the first time with a limited vocabulary, less exposure to everyday life than their peers, and a lack of positive role models, we know that Dreamers grow and succeed while at An Achievable Dream. One thing all our students do have in common is that they were born into poverty - and now live in a world that pushes against their success. Our students are survivors, and with An Achievable Dream they have a support system on their side that ensures these students live up to their potential.
Here are a few of this month's featured individual student profiles, so you too can learn about our Dreamers.
Treyvon The first thing you notice about Treyvon is his big smile…it lights up the room. This sixth grade student wrote his own plays in the second grade and wants to be a movie director when he grows up.
His favorite subject is social studies. He says his teacher, Mrs. Dagley, “really pulls us in to the information” by making history come alive.
Treyvon feels that the Achievable Dream program has given him many opportunities to grow and realize the choices he can make for his future. When he is not working on school assignments, Treyvon likes to play games on his Play Station 2. His favorite movie star is Tyler Perry.
Sade
Soft-spoken and pleasant, Sade entered the Achievable Dream program in the third grade, but she did not like the year-round concept at first. Now she realizes there are many advantages to attending An Achievable Dream, like plenty of technology and smaller class size. “You’re not just a number here, “she says.
She credits her fourth grade teacher, Mr. Harrison, with getting her interested in math and science.
A member of Chrome, Sade likes to watch the Discovery Health Channel and wants to be a neurosurgeon one day. She is also a member of the Fashion and Modeling Club at ADMHS. Outside of school, Sade likes to go to the mall with her friends.
This sophomore says her hero is Michelle Obama, whom she describes as a strong and fashionable woman.
