Tennis -- the Official Sport of An Achievable Dream

Founder Walter Segaloff felt that by incorporating tennis into the program, the students would not only learn a sports skill, but could also improve their entire person through character development and discipline. Based on the ideals and success of the Israel Tennis Center, the Achievable Dream tennis program focuses on building self-esteem and social skills. By emphasizing structure with positive reinforcement and good role models, the students are given useful tools to succeed and excel in both tennis and life.
Tennis helps develop critical thinking and stress management skills. As a sport where competition is without the benefit of a sideline coach, tennis helps our students prepare to rely on themselves to make crucial and quick decisions when needed.
Tennis is a sport that extends past racial boundaries and old prejudices, and a sport that children can play throughout their business and social lives. All students begin with tennis lessons in 3rd grade and continue throughout their education at An Achievable Dream.
High school tennis team members are annually ranked among the top in the district and regional tennis arena. Many Achievable Dream graduates attend college on tennis scholarships. An Achievable Dream participates in numerous United States Tennis Assocation (USTA) Jr Tennis tournaments throughout the region and in statewide events. The school is the largest National Junior Tennis League in Virginia and one of the largest in the country.
